Biography

Dr. Liu’s research interests involve the study of neuromuscular diseases using biomechanical techniques. Specific research includes: gait analysis, spine kinematics, muscle EMG, bone growth modulation, 3D raster stereography imaging, and computer aided modeling and design (orthotics, and medical devices etc.). Dr. Liu joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin as a faculty member in 1999 after completing a two-year pediatric orthopedics research fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. He was one of the founding members of the hospital’s pediatric orthopedic musculoskeletal research center. He is an investigator at the Children’s Research Institute, a member of the Children’s Environmental Health Sciences Core Center, an adjunct associate professor of the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Engineering Center (OREC) at Marquette University, and an adjunct associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). Dr. Liu received his PhD in 1994 and his MD of Orthopaedics in 1997 from the Catholic University of Leuven and its affiliated hospital, Belgium. Dr. Liu has published peer-reviewed papers in many prestigious orthopedics and rehabilitation and related research journals. He actively participates in several professional societies, including the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society, the International Research Society of Spinal Deformities, and the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America etc.
