- Why I chose MCW
I’m not from Milwaukee, and didn’t rotate at MCW as a medical student, but I fell in love with the program when I interviewed here. I really enjoyed talking to the residents and felt a sense of community. I knew I wanted to be at a place where going to work wasn’t seen as a dark cloud every morning, and I love working with everyone here. People get along well and it shows.
- What MCW has to offer to a Candidate
A great balanced program with opportunities for everything. I loved the idea of having electives during the 4th and 5th year to see different perspectives, whether it be in private practice or academics so I could tailor my experience to what I wanted to do, or felt like I still needed to do. Well structured didactics that include anatomy sessions, cadaver labs, and both faculty and resident run lectures are extremely helpful for board prep. A good mix of team-based and mentorship-type rotations adds to the diverse experience.
- What I like about living in Milwaukee
We have a beach, nightlife, and everything else you would want in a big city, but much simpler, and much more affordable. There’s also the suburban lifestyle if that’s what you want. The last thing I want to do in the morning is sit in traffic. I live downtown in a nice apartment for an affordable price and can get to work in about 10 minutes. You can get to Chicago in under an hour on the train, but to be honest, there’s enough to do in Milwaukee that it’s really not necessary to go anywhere else to have fun. Can I say beer? Beer. There, I said it.
