Why I chose MCW

I was looking for three things in a residency: great diversity and depth in operative experience, a faculty that enjoyed teaching and was approachable, and a group of residents that got along well and had a strong sense of camaraderie. Many of the programs I rotated at or interviewed at had one or two of these advantages, but I felt like MCW covered all of these selling points well and was therefore a great fit for me.

What MCW has to offer to a Candidate

Residents at MCW learn by doing. While the faculty at MCW are very involved in teaching residents, they also allow a lot of autonomy, allowing residents the ability to develop and hone their skills early. The Orthopaedic service at MCW is very busy and has a large volume from which residents gain great experience. Yet the lifestyle is still manageable partly due to a home call schedule that guarantees you don’t waste time at the hospital if you’re not doing anything. In addition MCW has a great group of residents that get along well while teaching and supporting one another.

What I like about living in Milwaukee

Milwaukee is a very active city with many fun things to do; it has all the amenities of a big city with the charm of a small town. There are great places to eat, many fun festivals and activities, and the people are very friendly. The cost of living is relatively affordable and if you need to get out of town Chicago is only a short drive away.
